Design in São Bento – Traces of Portuguese Culture
The Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva Foundation contributes to the exhibition ‘Design in São Bento – Traces of Portuguese Culture’ with some contemporary pieces manufactured in its workshops and designed by renowned designers such as Filipe Alarcão and Sam Baron.
Presenting the decorative arts and popular crafts as an example of rationality, economy of means, ingenuity, beauty and functionality, this exhibition expresses a wide-reaching concept of design as an innate capacity of man, proving the relevance of traditional know-how as a source of inspiration, education and development, and highlighting the value of design as the foundation of a model of sustained development.
An initiative of the Prime Minister implemented by the Lisbon Muncipal Council and MUDE – Museu do Design e da Moda, the Francisco Capelo Collection is open to the public on the first Sunday of every month, with a programme of guided tours between 11am and 1pm, until June 2021.
Address: Palacete de São Bento, Prime Minister’s official residence, 30 Calçada da Estrela, Lisbon.
