WORKSHOPS / ATELIERS

Schools, children and youth:

Marbled paper, Skin engraving, Tile painting, Gilding and Wood

Marbled paper

We will decorate sheets of paper with a very special painting. We have a tub with water and paints, which mix with a stick. The movements create unrepeatable designs, the result being unique! Then at home, you can use the sheets to line notebooks, boxes, frames or other objects.

Price per student: € 5.00

Skin engraving

In the Museum, there are, among other objects, books. They are old books, bound with goatskin and decorated with motifs engraved with their own irons. After observing these bindings, we will try, with the help of a Master, to use this technique. We make a leather bookmark with engraved decoration. Finally, we personalize the work by recording our initials.

Price per student: € 5.00

Tile Painting

We will visit the Museum with special attention to tiles. Some form panels that represent scenes from a story, others have only a small element in the center. These are called “single figure tiles”. In the patio there is a wide variety of these tiles and we can choose a reason to paint. Let’s try this painting technique that has its secrets and… wait for the result! How will the colors look after cooking?

Price per student: € 5.00

Gilding

We have a small wooden object and we are going to transform it into a different and shiny piece. We are going to gild our object by covering it with imitation gold leaves. It is not easy to handle such a fragile material … but it is fun.

Price per student: € 5.00

Woods / Small Joiner

With leftovers from various woods used in the workshops, we will create a unique piece. We have to pay attention to find out how our object is built. We do not use nails, but rather fittings, so the help of a Master is precious!

Price per student: € 5.00

Wood / Embedded

A small wooden object can be much more beautiful if we decorate it with leftovers of other woods or other materials used in the Workshops. Let’s use our hands and imagination!

Price per student: € 5.00

Each activity lasts 2 hours and runs from Monday to Friday between 10 am / 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm / 4:30 pm, by appointment.

MUSEUM l WORKSHOP

Museu Oficina is the program of the Museum of Portuguese Decorative Arts created for children aged 6 to 12, which takes place during school holidays. These are full-day activities developed over 3, 4 or 5 days, starting with the Museum’s collection and a theme that serves as a guiding thread.

We visited the Museum discovering the “path” that the theme proposes to us and explored materials and techniques. Visits are made to the Arts and Crafts Workshops that are guided by the Masters.

There is always a collective work and several individual works.

This program exists for Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays.
