Opening of registrations for the Gilding Techniques course (UFCD 5624)

Registrations are open for the Short Courses (UFCD) 5624 – Gilding Technician.

Contents:
. Techniques with water-based sizes: Oil, acrylic, bole on metal, wood, plaster, glass, paper, etc.
. Types of Leaf: Gold, silver, copper, imitation, free and tracing, colouration and carats, manual and industrial manufacturing, changes and durability
. Function of Materials: Binder, solvent, inert
. Preparation of supports with natural or acrylic products: Brush application of acrylic or oil-based sizes | Sequential brush application of leaf on flat or discontinuous surfaces
. Protection of metallic surfaces with water and alcohol-based varnishes
. Bole technique: Support preparation with natural products (grey background, white background, Armenian bole) | Tools (cushion, palette, gilders brush, knife, burnishers) | Cutting leaf on the cushion | Bole activators (alcohol and water-based with animal glue) | Application of leaf with gilding palette and gilders brush | Function of the burnishers | Protection of surfaces (acrylic and alcohol-based varnishes).

Objectives: To characterise gilding as a decorative painting technique; To use colour to enhance the surface to be gilded with gold leaf; To apply sizes and identify the appropriate waiting time for applying the gold leaf; To isolate metallised surfaces with appropriate products; To execute the preparation process with natural products; To handle and apply gold leaf with appropriate instruments and materials; To burnish the bole and leaf after application; To document the work completed.

The course will only go ahead if there are at least 10 participants and is planned to take place from 02/03/2020 to 06/04/2020, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm.

The cost of this UFCD is €400.00.
